The nervous system establishes programs that control human posture, movement and gait. DNS emphasizes neurodevelopmental aspects of motor control in order to assess and restore dysfunction of the locomotor system and associated syndromes. Dynamic neuromuscular (core) stability is necessary for optimal athletic performance which is accomplished through precise coordination of these muscles and intra‐abdominal pressure regulation by the central nervous system. Just strengthening the abdominals alone will not enhance overall core stability. The DNS approach assesses movement to determine where muscles need to be activated, and the approach has tools to begin to work with these muscles to stabilize where necessary and to optimize movement of the body.
